Island-based Telehealth

The Mission has stationed virtual telehealth backpack kits on four of Maine’s remote islands for residents to use. These kits include a range of tools that allow islanders to attend a broader range of telehealth appointments from home, including high resolution exam cameras and all of the tools to measure vital signs. The backpacks are free to use and available to all island residents.

This initiative ensures rural patients have greater access to medical care through multiple health systems as well as equips participating providers with baseline tools to conduct an exam. It is made possible through a partnership with MCD Global Health and the Seacoast Care Collaborative, the latter of which is a part of the Mission’s Island Health program.
