For Providers
For residents of outer, unbridged islands, a simple doctor’s visit can be an all-day affair. A missed boat or bad weather can force an important appointment to be canceled. As a result, some islanders delay care or skip it altogether.
Telehealth Kits are available on Maine islands to help you better connect with your patients. Maine Seacoast Mission and MCD Global Health have provided telehealth backpack kits complete withthat include a vitals kit, exam camera, otoscope, and stethoscope on the Cranberry Isles, Swan’s Island, Isle au Haut, and Monhegan.
In addition, the Sunbeam Nurse regularly visits islands and can perform both blood draws and other tests as requested.

Troubleshooting Tips
-
- Be sure that the correct device is selected as the video/audio input.
-
- Be sure that “original audio for musicians” (or the equivalent option in a non-Zoom software) is selected.
- For provider: Headphones are recommended for best sound quality.
-
- Plug in the camera cable before turning device on.
- When plugging the otoscope into the computer to transfer images, be sure to plug directly into the computer, not the multi-port hub.
-
- If using a probe cover, be sure that the camera was inserted into the probe cover correctly. If it is upside down, it will not fit snugly across the surface of the camera and will create a fuzzy image. The camera can also be used without a cover as long as it is cleaned with an alcohol wipe afterwards.
-
- If having a hard time obtaining a reading, try warming the hands.
- Rest the hand on a table or other solid surface.
