Downeast

A person is more than their need for sustenance or shelter, and a community is more than just people who live in the same place. The Maine Seacoast Mission’s Downeast Campus in Cherryfield—home to EdGE and our scholarships, food and housing programs—offers a safe, welcoming environment and a sense of belonging. Weekly meals and events give a diverse group of neighbors the opportunity to relax, enjoy good food and each other’s company, and stay warm and dry.

Located on the Mission’s Downeast Campus in Cherryfield, the Weald Bethel Community Center, opened in 2018, includes a commercial kitchen, dorm rooms, full bathroom and showers, washer/dryer, and indoor space perfect for the Mission’s many community gatherings described in our Community Events section. The Center also accommodates the Housing Rehabilitation program volunteers who come to Maine to share their valuable time and labor. As Mission Campus Director of Service Programs Wendy Harrington said, “This community center is a place where everyone is welcome, one where everyone belongs.”

Volunteers are at the heart of all our Downeast programs, and partnerships with other nonprofits make us even stronger. Please let us know if you are interested in getting involved.
