Community Engagement

Community Engagement supports activities and initiatives that touch multiple programs operating out of the Mission’s Downeast Campus.

Community Engagement supports initiatives that span multiple programs including EdGE, Housing Improvement, Food Security, and the Christmas Program, helping oversee volunteers, schedule events, and more.

The program also supports events organized by the Mission as well as by the community. The Weald Bethel Community Center on the Downeast Campus hosts events most weeks including a weekly meal (Downeast Table of Plenty), community classes, gatherings, celebrations, and more.

The Downeast Campus has many spaces on the property to support community-hosted activities. Please reach out if you would like to learn more.

In 2023, the Mission hosted 12+ of its own community events held for the public.

Community-hosted Activities

A wealth of Downeast community members and groups curate inclusive events for the public to enjoy. The Mission’s Downeast Campus is a welcome host to such events even if not associated with a Mission program. The following community-hosted activities are recurring events open to the public:

At the Downeast Table of Plenty, everyone is welcome to share a satisfying, home-cooked meal on Sunday afternoons from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m.

Open Mic on Wednesday nights from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. gives local musicians and others a chance to gather together every week for song and fun at the Weald Bethel Community Center.

Yoga takes place on Tuesday mornings from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. in the Weald Bethel Community Center.

Saturday Programming

Throughout the year, the Mission hosts events on its 63-acre campus. During these events, community members are welcome on campus for outdoor and indoor activities. During winter months, ice skate on our rink and explore the trails on snowshoes. In spring and summer, there are chances to utilize our pole-based challenge course. Check out the Mission’s Facebook page for the latest information on these programs.
