It’s Thank you Thursday. Today’s shout out of Mission love goes to DETOP participants Meg and Bob.
Sunbeam steward Jillian is eager to thank Downeast neighbors Meg and Bob for, over the years, always wanting to share produce with her, and at the Mission Downeast Table of Plenty (DETOP) community supper.
Before Covid-19, every Sunday afternoon, the Weald Bethel Community Center was alive with great food and great company of people of all walks of life, of all ages. Each Sunday meal was hosted by volunteers such Meg and Bob. We look forward to the post-Covid-19 world when we can resume our celebratory DETOP suppers.
“On my recent Sunday visit to their little homestead on the edge of the beautiful blueberry barrens,” said Jillian, “Meg sent me off with deliciously aromatic freshly dried sweet marjoram and summer savory from her garden for cooking in the Sunbeam Galley.”

It’s Thank you Thursday. Today’s shout out of Mission love goes to Carroll Drug Store in Southwest Harbor, and Jensen’s Pharmacy in Rockland ME for “going the extra mile” while helping Island Services Director Sharon Daley, RN do her work among Maine island communities.
“Both small local pharmacies have been so helpful to me through the years,” said Sharon Daley. “Getting flu vaccine for the islands would have been impossible without their help.
“I have called both pharmacists — who are always very busy — with questions about patient medications. Often I’m calling about patients who aren’t getting their medication at the pharmacies. Still, both pharmacies, without fail, take time to answer our questions,” she said.
“They also understand the difficulty of getting your medications on an island and do their best to help,” continued Sharon. “I really appreciate their willingness to help and for going the extra mile in all they do for their customers and for me.”

It’s Thank you Thursday. Today’s shout out of Mission love goes to Gena Norgaard.
Gena began her work with the Mission as a volunteer in the Recycle Shop and the Food Pantry in 1983. In 1997, she was named the Food Pantry Coordinator and continued in that position until 2020. Gena created a food pantry that was inviting and friendly with the atmosphere of an old-fashioned general store.
Thank you, Gena, for decades of service to Maine Seacoast Mission. We honor your life of generous support to the community and our neighbors.

It’s Thank you Thursday. Today’s shout out of Mission love goes to Rick Erb, President & CEO of the Maine Health Care Association (MHCA).
Rick has worked with our Island Elder Care group over the past several years. He has attended our Island Elder Care conference and been an advocate for the group at the State legislative level. Rick is always available, helping us find answers to so many questions.
Our small island elder care homes would not be as prepared as they are without the resources and help of Rick Erb and MHCA. It has been a pleasure to work with someone so professional and caring.

It’s Thank you Thursday. Today’s shout out of Mission love goes to Jaime Weir and Colleen Maynard for their extraordinary work on behalf of the Mission’s Ed Greaves Educational (EdGE) programs.
Mission Development Associate Anna Silver said of the two, “I have been working on the Maine Seacoast Mission’s EdGE Tennis Tournament with Jaime Weir and Colleen Maynard for over six years. Colleen and Jaime take time out of their busy summer schedules to help me plan the Tournament each year. The Mission would not be able to have this fundraiser without their enthusiastic and generous support,” said Anna.
The EdGE Tennis Tournament, now in its 16th year, supports the Mission’s educational program.
“Jaime and Colleen organize the teams, and plan the schedule for Tournament day. Along with Mission friend, Dan Granholm, they have run tennis clinics for the EdGE kids. It is a favorite EdGE field trip!” continued Anna.
“They are two of the nicest people I have ever had the pleasure of working with,” she said.

It’s Thank you Thursday. Today’s shout out of Mission love goes to Mount Desert 365 in Northeast Harbor.
The decision to sell the Mission’s longstanding home, La Rochelle, at 127 West Street, Bar Harbor demanded a second important decision: where would be the Mission’s next home? After meeting with the good people at Mount Desert 365 we knew we had found our new home at their new building downtown Northeast Harbor.
“Mount Desert 365 is a community-based organization promoting long-term economic vitality of Mount Desert, Maine, through expansion of sustainable year-round residential communities and economic revitalization of commercial districts,” says MD 365’s website.
“Beyond the place where we live, work, and raise our families, community is the connection with neighbors, a shared appreciation for the natural beauty that surrounds us, and a sense of commitment towards mutual prosperity, communal health and well-being, and civic pride through engagement,” Mount Desert 365 tells us.
