Scholarship Recipient Studying Civil Engineering in University College Cork, Ireland

Bar Harbor, ME — Mission Scholarship Administrator Terri Rodick keeps in regular contact with our scholarship recipient students. It’s always good, Terri says, when she hears from scholarship recipient students.

Brigitte is a third year Civil Engineering student at the University of Maine, Orono. She currently studying in Ireland at the University College Cork as one of two students chosen from a large pool of UM System applicants to spend a semester in Cork, Ireland.

Bridgitte will attend classes at the University College Cork in Environmental Hydraulics, Thermodynamics, Harbor and Coastal Engineering, and Architecture and Planning. Working with four other students, Bridgitte is responsible for design and construction of a full-size refugee shelter. Once complete, her group will present their shelter design to a United Nations representative, hoping that the UN adopt their design or modify it to their liking. After returning to the United States, Brigitte will share stories of her experience, and help other students considering traveling abroad.
