Through our scholarship program, the Maine Seacoast Mission helps recent high school graduates and adults from Maine’s offshore islands and downeast communities continue their educations and achieve their dreams.
Since 1918, we have awarded more than $2.5 million to 3,450 deserving students from Maine’s off-shore islands and coastal communities. Every year, approximately 35 new scholarships are awarded on the basis of financial need and academic promise. Because these scholarships can be renewed each year of a multi-year program, there are nearly 100 Mission scholars in any given year.
Many scholarship recipients are graduates of the EdGE program. The special EdGE Scholarship awards a total of $8,000 over eight years. It is given to a student who has participated in the program for at least five years and been a volunteer and high school staff member for EdGE. Scholarships are also a key component of the Mission’s new family engagement program, where they help the parents of EdGE children achieve their goals.
The Angus MacDonald scholarship, honoring one of the Mission’s founders, offers an award of $12,000 over four years to an exceptional high school graduate who has demonstrated superior academic achievement, leadership skills, integrity, and commitment to community.
Scholarship applications for 2017 will be available here by January 1, 2017. Applications for new and renewing scholarships are due to the Mission by May 1, 2017. For more information, contact Scholarship Administrator Terri Rodick.
