It’s Thank you Thursday for Mount Desert 365

It’s Thank you Thursday. Today’s shout out of Mission love goes to Mount Desert 365 in Northeast Harbor.

The decision to sell the Mission’s longstanding home, La Rochelle, at 127 West Street, Bar Harbor demanded a second important decision: where would be the Mission’s next home? After meeting with the good people at Mount Desert 365 we knew we had found our new home at their new building downtown Northeast Harbor.

“Mount Desert 365 is a community-based organization promoting long-term economic vitality of Mount Desert, Maine, through expansion of sustainable year-round residential communities and economic revitalization of commercial districts,” says MD 365’s website.

“Beyond the place where we live, work, and raise our families, community is the connection with neighbors, a shared appreciation for the natural beauty that surrounds us, and a sense of commitment towards mutual prosperity, communal health and well-being, and civic pride through engagement,” Mount Desert 365 tells us.

MDI Senior Swims 6-Mile Ferry Route to Benefit Swan’s Island Youth

MDI Senior Swims 6-Mile Ferry Route to Benefit Swan’s Island Youth

NORTHEAST HARBOR, ME — I wanted to bring this news story to your attention. Tuesday, September 1, Sage Dentremont, a current senior at MDI High School and a Swan’s Island resident, swam six miles — Swan’s Island to Bass Harbor — to raise money for other Swan’s Island kids to take swim lessons at the Ellsworth YMCA.

The $10,000-plus Sage raised will help pay for ferry tickets and swim fees at the YMCA.

Sage is an amazing young person. She attended the Mission’s middle school retreat while still an island student, and as a high school student, she participated on the retreat Q & A panel. She is just a great kid!

Here is the Fox News story and video.

I wanted to celebrate her accomplishment and generosity towards others. To add to Sage’s fundraising visit her GoFundMe page.

Thank you Thursday to Brien Davis, NP at Hope Health

Thank you Thursday to Brien Davis, NP at Hope Health

It’s Thank you Thursday. Today’s shout out of Mission Love goes to Nurse Practitioner Brien Davis and his Hope Health clinic in Camden, ME.

Mission Island Health Services Director Sharon Daley, RN nominated Brien Davis because “he is so good to work with. I called him twice in the last few days for help with two lobstermen with no doctor, no insurance.” Brien’s appointment calendar was booked solid, but he saw both lobstermen.

“Brien understands how difficult it is for someone on an island to get off for medical care. I can count on him and his staff to help when there is someone who needs medical attention,” said Sharon Daley. “He is not only an excellent practitioner, he’s understanding, figures out ways to make things work, and adjusts as needed.

“When I am on an island and need someone seen quickly Brien and staff make it happen. I am so grateful for the support and help they give me and the islanders,” said Sharon.

Thank you Thursday to Jasmine Church and Tristan Alley

Thank you Thursday to Jasmine Church and Tristan Alley

It’s Thank you Thursday. Today’s shout out of Mission Love goes to Tristan Alley and Jasmine Church, for their inspiring leadership and heart on behalf of Downeast students!

These young leaders represent the best of Maine Seacoast Mission: having benefited from Mission programming and support, they now contribute to Mission communities through their passionate dedication to our younger Mission students.

Tristan Alley is a Mission Scholar and Mitchell Scholar. He grew up in Jonesport, graduated Jonesport Beals High School in 2015, and graduated Husson University in 2019. Today he’s in his second year of Chiropractic School at Logan University, Saint Louis, MO. From serving as a chaperon and facilitating workshops at our first College Exploration and Engagement retreat last summer to serving on this year’s interview committee for Mission Scholars, Tristan gives of himself fully, authentically and enthusiastically.

Jasmine Church, from Columbia Falls, is a 2020 Narraguagus High School graduate. During her high school years she participated in Bowdoin’s Upward Bound program. She is entering freshman year at University of Maine, Farmington, and plans to pursue Secondary Education and Mathematics. Jasmine participated in EdGE programming before becoming an EdGE student through our GearUp Program. She served as a Mentor with our Journey Program. “She will move mountains and be an amazing teacher,” said Journey Coordinator Briana West.
