Join the Mission this summer for guided, dockside tours of the 74foot boat, Sunbeam. Each Friday at 1:00 p.m. from July 13 to September 19, the public is welcome aboard the boat at its home port at the Northeast Harbor marina. Visitors will learn about the organization’s history and its programming on unbridged islands and in the Downeast region.

Your gift to the Maine Seacoast Mission makes you part of all we do.

The Sunbeam regularly visits six unbridged islands offering both education, outreach, and medical services. The Mission’s island-based programs support residents of all of Maine’s 15 unbridged islands with year-round populations. The current Sunbeam, the fifth of its name, has been in service since 1995 and received a total refit in 2020. During the tour, attendees will glimpse the boat’s inner workings, learn the Mission’s history of service, and understand what is needed to provide year-round services to island communities.

“The Sunbeam is a welcome sight in many harbors in coastal Maine,” Mission President John Zavodny remarks, “Every year, she welcomes thousands of visitors and island residents. Now, we are happy to be able to welcome everyone to visit her in Northeast Harbor to learn more about the work of the Mission.”

These kid-friendly tours are free and open to the public. This is a guided tour that lasts 30 minutes. Sunbeam will not leave the dock. For questions contact the Mission at (207) 801-6008 or email [email protected]. Please note the Northeast Harbor town dock and ramp are not accessible to wheelchairs. Visitors should be able to maneuver up and down stairs. In addition to these “Walk Aboard Sunbeam” Fridays, there are six open houses scheduled on the Sunbeam this summer.
