Sunbeam Open Houses and Tours

Visit the Sunbeam and learn more about Mission programming.

From June to August in summer 2024, Maine Seacoast Mission’s 74-foot flagship vessel Sunbeam hosted five open houses in various ports along coastal Maine. Maine residents and visitors could tour Sunbeam and learn more about the Missions work in coastal Washington County and on outer, unbridged islands.

2025 Open Houses will be announced this winter.

Tours in Northeast Harbor

Each Friday during the summer the public is welcome aboard the Mission’s 74-foot boat in Northeast Harbor marina. Visitors will learn about the organization’s history and its programming on unbridged islands and in the Downeast region. These kid-friendly tours are free and open to the public. Each tour lasts 20 minutes.

Please note, Northeast Harbor’s town dock and ramp are not accessible to wheelchairs. Visitors should be able to maneuver up and down stairs.

Mission programming via Sunbeam regularly provides support through community building, education initiatives, and education services. In addition, a full-time nurse offers vaccination clinics, leads a network of eldercare facilities, provides healthcare check-ups, and connects residents to mainland specialists. Islands served include Chebeague, Cliff Island, Frenchboro, Great Cranberry, Great Diamond, Isle au Haut, Islesboro, Islesford, Long Island, Matinicus, Monhegan, North Haven, Vinalhaven, Peaks, and Swan’s.
