BAR HARBOR, ME — Congratulations to Mission Scholarship recipient Dori LeMoine for earning the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Rookie of the Week.

According to a St. Joseph’s College of Maine news story (4/2/2019), freshman Dori LeMoine “shattered the (St. Joseph College) Monks’ outdoor records in the shot put (9.90m) and hammer throw (29.37) events in the UMass.-Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday.

LeMoine “already owns the Monks’ outdoor records for javelin throw (30.56m), shot put, and hammer throw as well as the indoor shot put mark (9.97m),” said the news story.

Mission Program Director for Scholarships Terri Rodick, in response to LeMoine’s athletic achievement said, “She is a great young woman. Shy, but funny. Family means very much to her.”

For the 2018 graduate of Mount Desert Island, “living on Swan’s Island and participating in extracurricular activities was no doubt a challenge,” continued Director Terri Rodick. “Dori is also a lobsterman during summers. She appreciates where she comes from and where she is going. If you ever need a helping hand, Dori LeMoine is one of the first to offer help,” said Rodick.

BAR HARBOR, ME — Terri Rodick spotted this good news about former Mission scholarship alumni Nicklaus Carter. Mr. Carter was awarded Mission Scholarships 2011 – 2015. Today he is a doctoral student in University of Maine’s Graduate School of Biomedical Science, “turning forest biproduct into innovative medical research.”

“Carter has found that conduit-treated peripheral nerve injuries regenerated nearly four times faster than those not treated. He hopes his findings will advance future peripheral nerve regeneration,” said UMaine Media Contact Christel Peters.

BAR HARBOR, ME — Maine Seacoast Mission Scholarships Program Manager Terri Rodick sends this link to Emma Ressel’s art photography book, reminding us, “Emma is one of our scholarship alumni. She received a scholarship all four years 2012-13,14,15. She graduated Mount Desert Island high school.”

Emma Ressel (b. Bar Harbor, Maine, 1994) is a fine-art photographer who creates surreal still life photographs of food. Her photographs are surprising compositions that do away with pure aesthetic pleasure and are unafraid to depict rot, nonsensical combinations of ingredients, and a vague, undefined story. Ressel recently had a solo show at Woods Gallery at Bard College, and her work has been exhibited in numerous group shows in galleries including Artemis Gallery in Northeast Harbor, Maine.

Ressel’s work is in the permanent collection of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
