OUR WORK

The Maine Seacoast Mission’s work is rooted in a commitment to the people of Downeast Maine and its outer islands and a profound sense of dignity and respect for the families we serve.

Since 1905, the Mission has been connecting people to their strengths by offering healthcare, education, food, shelter, and spiritual support. At our Downeast Campus in Cherryfield, we build community through food security, afterschool programs, youth development, scholarships, housing rehabilitation, and events. And for islands miles off the Maine coast, the Sunbeam serves as a floating community center, bringing nurses and telehealth, a chance to gather for meals, and a roster of educational programming and enriching events.

Our Story

The Maine Seacoast Mission’s work is rooted in a commitment to the people of Downeast Maine and its outer islands and a profound sense of dignity and respect for the families we serve.

For over a century, the Maine Seacoast Mission has been meeting people where they are, helping to grow stronger communities, resilient children, engaged families and connected older adults. Our programs and services—providing food, fixing up homes, supporting students, distributing scholarships, offering healthcare, and sharing laughter and fellowship—are a way of boosting the inherent strengths of these communities. We listen, we respond, and we are here for the long haul.

It is a privilege to be part of the lives of those we serve—to share meals, work together, and know their hopes, fears, joys, and sorrows. The trust grown between the Mission and the people of Downeast Maine is our greatest asset.
