Housing Improvement

The Housing Improvement program repairs homes belonging to residents of Washington and eastern Hancock Counties.

Everyone needs a home that is warm, safe, and dry. From June through September, we welcome hundreds of volunteers at our Cherryfield campus to spend a week working with us. Each summer we complete multiple improvement projects on up to 20 homes in the area. Projects range from access entry decks to window and door repair or replacement.

Operating since 2003, this program works in partnership with volunteer groups from around the country and community organizations such as Downeast Community Partners. Volunteer groups wishing to participate in the program can reach out to the Mission’s Development department.

In 2023, 115 volunteers completed 35 projects on 10 sites; their repairs resulted in warmer, safer, and dryer homes.

Our work is your work, made possible by your generous gifts.

No matter how hard times get, the Mission will be there, helping sustain and strengthen families and communities. Please join us. Your donations bring warmth when it’s cold, shed light where it’s dark, and give strength when burdens grow heavy.
