For the students who have received a scholarship from the Mission, it can often be life–changing. Bishmita Dahal, who graduated from the University of Maine at Machias, shares, “I do not know how I would have gotten through college without the help of the Mission.” Her scholarship allowed her to focus on her studies and not worry about paying for college. She was able to graduate without debt and is now planning on applying to a Physician Assistant degree program.

The Mission is now accepting applications for the Davis Maine Scholarship and Mission Scholarships through Wednesday, April 15. The Davis Maine Scholarship is a four-year, full cost of attendance scholarship for first-generation students. Students apply in the spring of their junior year. Mission Scholarships are open to graduating high school seniors, and adults who live in Washington and Hancock counties or on a Maine outer island served by the Mission.
Davis Maine Scholars receive a full cost of attendance, four-year scholarship at one of three partner colleges: Clark University (MA), Wheaton College (MA), and University of New England (ME). These colleges were selected based on their commitment to supporting first-generation students, including those from rural communities. As high school seniors, Davis Maine Scholars participate in cohort workshops, college visits, and guided transition to college. Scholars also receive consistent mentoring and support from Mission staff and other Scholars. Applicants must live in Washington County or attend Charles M. Sumner Learning Campus in Sullivan.
Each year, roughly 25 new Maine Scholars are chosen for the Mission Scholarship based on academic promise and financial need. Scholars can renew their Scholarship throughout their four-year college journey. In 2025, the Mission awarded $246,000 in scholarships to 82 students, with 27 new Scholars chosen that year.
