The Maine Coast
The Maine coast spans more than 3,400 miles from Kittery to Eastport, but most visitors see a very small portion of this iconic coastline. The Maine Seacoast Mission’s service area is a 9,500 square mile area that more than 90,000 Mainers call home. However, few visitors travel to these remote communities in Downeast Maine and on unbridged islands. Here, people may live miles from the closest supermarket, hospital, or restaurant.
Mainers who live here pride themselves on their independence and self-sufficiency. They have deep ties to the region with families living in the same area for generations. These small communities are tight knit with neighbors coming together in times of sorrow and joy. They have trusted and relied on the Mission for almost 120 years to supply food, repair homes, support students, offer healthcare, and encourage togetherness and belonging. As a volunteer for the Mission, you will be both welcomed into and immersed in these local communities.
You will meet lobsterman, artists, teachers, children, elders, and more that call these remote areas home. You will help seniors age in place by creating easier access to their homes, you will restore island beaches to their natural states, and your work will have a lasting impact. You will help build on the inherent strengths of coastal and island communities.

MAINE SEACOAST SERVICE TOURS
During a Maine Seacoast Service Tour, groups will volunteer in the Downeast region of the state and on outer islands. During the week, you may: hike trails in Acadia National Park, go out on the Mission’s iconic 74-foot vessel Sunbeam, taste some of Maine’s delicacies including lobsters and blueberries, and watch the sun rise over the ocean.
Maine Seacoast Service Tours offers large groups an individualized experience from a menu of activities, itineraries, and accommodations. Join Maine Seacoast Mission and have the adventure of a lifetime.

HOUSING IMPROVEMENT SERVICE TOURS
Every summer, the Mission welcome hundreds of volunteers to our Cherryfield campus in Downeast Maine to spend a week working with the Mission. During this time, volunteers work on home improvement projects in the area that range from creating access entry decks to window and door repair or replacement. Operating since 2003, volunteers help create homes that are warm, safe, and dry.
