2024 Awardees

Started in 2004, the Sunbeam Award Gala is the Mission’s premiere fundraising event and recognizes those who embody the ideals of community. This year’s awardees include:

Diana Davis Spencer Foundation

The Diana Davis Spencer Foundation is a committed philanthropic partner with deep ties to Maine. Diana Davis Spencer, a journalist and activist, guides her organization’s grantmaking efforts. Her daughter, Abby Spencer Moffat, a former business leader and entrepreneur, leads the Foundation as Chief Executive Officer and President.

Island Institute

Island Institute will be honored for its enduring role as a community partner. For 40 years, the Institute has been committed to working with island and coastal communities in marine economy, sustainability, and community.

2024 Event Gallery

Directions and Parking Information

Guests may park at Conners Emerson School on Eden Street in Bar Harbor. Oli’s Trolley will transport guests to and from the Gala. Metered parking is also available on West Street near Bar Harbor Club (at 111 West Street).

To the School from the west side of Mount Desert Island: Turn onto ME-198 S/ME-3 W in 1.4 miles. Turn left onto ME-233 E/Eagle Lake Road in 5.8 miles. Turn left in 0.1 miles.

To the School from the head of Mount Desert Island: Head southeast on ME-3 for 10 miles. Turn right onto Eagle Lake Rd after 187 feet. Turn right in 0.1 mile.

Trolleys will run 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. The cocktail hour begins at 5:00 p.m. and the program starts shortly after 6:00 p.m.

Following dinner and closing remarks, Oli’s Trolley will transport guests to their vehicles between 7:30 to 9:00 p.m.
