MA and CT Church Volunteers Knock It Out of Housing Rehab Park

Another week of double crews and these two highly skilled teams knocked it out of the park. The volunteers’ work included building a handicapped accessible walk-in shower for a woman, roofing a home, installing new flooring, and replacing windows.

I would like to send a big Thank You to these crews who have adopted Downeast Maine as their Mission destination!

Great Cranberry Isles Health Fair a Success

Great Cranberry Isles Health Fair a Success

BAR HARBOR, ME — Approximately 20 health care providers traveled to GCI on the Moonbeam and other boats to a health fair hosted by the Maine Seacoast Mission. This provided islanders a chance to have free hearing tests by an audiologist, blood sugar checks information on breast self exam, hospice, domestic violence and home health care.

There was chance to put on a survival suit in a water safety class, learn about movement and music therapy, or make a spirit doll with an art therapist.

Having a chance for providers to meet each other to collaborate and for islanders to learn about services on a beautiful island made for a special day for all.

Thank you, Cindy Thomas, Chair of the Cranberry Isles Health Committee, for these photos of Health Fair participants. More Guests Than Silverware at Down East Magazine Hosted Mission Community Supper

A huge thank you to Down East Magazine editors Brian, Bob, Judith, and Roberta. We were honored the four of you would come to Cherryfield to host a Table of Plenty dinner, and we so appreciate the time and effort you put into the meal. I will never forget the toppling chickens and delicious entrees you prepared. It was a feast and lots of fun.

Some DETOP firsts: beer can chicken and more guests than our supply of plates and silverware. Down East Magazine was a big draw!

Again, thank you for including the Table of Plenty in Great Maine Scavenger Hunt. We have made many new friends through the Hunt, and had a wonderful time hosting, and getting to know, the volunteers. Their help every week has been a tremendous bonus. We have come to rely on them. Like you four, they bring new life and great energy to our community meal.

With gratitude,
Wendy Harrington
Maine Seacoast Mission Service Program Director
